“Imaging the Future of Chinatown”

Melanie
Waddell

“Imaging the Future of Chinatown” is an exploration of how the future of Chinatown should or could look like.

Model 1:
The exhibition features a spiraling platform, where visitors can read the information chronologically.

Model 2:
The interactive 3D map of Chinatown shows various development possibilities of Vancouver’s Chinatown.

Pallete:
The Palette has futuristic colors like metallic dark blue, silver, red and dark green computer parts.

Image 1:
Beijing-based architects MAD have designed a conceptual, star-shaped, mobile Chinatown. Moving around the world, the mobile town would produce all it’s own energy and recycle all its own waste, requiring no resources from its host city.

Image 2:
The desired development of Chinatown’s future would be somewhere between promoting a thriving Chinatown by supporting growth and development and preserving it’s historic character without making a museum out of it.
